Easter Crochet Ducks as ordered by the 11yr old!

For Christmas!!

♥♥♥
So that was why on the day before christmas eve...
It was a late request of course because I never leave anything to the last minute....is my nose growing?
....I could be found hooking very fast, ready for Santa to collect.
♥♥♥
The 11yr old likes ducks and chickens.
He has the most endearing faith in my ability to crochet anything.
He gave me a list.
1x dad duck,1x girl duck, some chicks and eggs, there must be eggs, preferably to include a hatching chick.
What?
Well I made it all up as I went along....thats what.
 I call it "freestyling"
It only took a couple of hours it 'flowed' some projects do that don't they?
 ♥♥♥
First came the Nest

♥♥♥
It worked up really quickly using double crochet and a  big hook and chunky yarn,.
I then threaded some scraps through and wove them in.
♥♥♥

Next Dad duck

I had to look in a bird book for the colours.
♥♥♥
Onto Mama duck

♥♥♥
with baby duckling,
♥♥♥

♥♥♥
A happy family
♥♥♥

♥♥♥

♥♥♥
Lastly the eggs,
I did not finish the hatching chick, will save that for easter as I have some ideas brewing
♥♥♥

Did you get any special 'lastminute' requests?

  6. Oh these are so adorable. The first thing that I noticed was how close you got to the ducks real colours. So cutie.
I didn't take any last minute requests this year. But as soon as New Year came, I went crafty crazy :)

  7. Don't you love it when a child's request (especially the ones from their heart) and a plan all come together! Great little family ... love the realistic reeds & mud nest :) My son once requested I make him a "Sonic" Halloween costume (last minute), and trotted off just knowing I could do it. It's their confidence in us that keeps us confident in ourselves.

  8. Aah, they're so cute and I love the nest, very creative. I'm very impressed that you made the pattern up as you went along. I love how kids come up with these grand ideas - hatching crochet eggs? Does 11 year old not realise how mind bendingly difficult that's likely to be?! I am currently trying to complete a crochet elephant and dragon. I am not enjoying it one little bit, give me a blanket to crochet any day! xx

  11. Skillful improvisation - I love ducks too, particularly mallards, yours are beautiful. I too was knitting right up to midnight on Christmas eve but all wrapped and ready by Christmas morning.

The only last minute thing I did this Christmas was take the mincepie eating whippet to the emergency vets at 10.00pm on Christmas eve!
